Team ENERGY STAR launches kid-friendly contest promoting importance of energy efficiencyA new initiative from the Environmental Protection Agency that recently launched this June called Team ENERGY STAR is hoping to guide youth in an eco-friendly direction. The program developed to engage and educate youth, and their families, about the importance of energy efficiency. One way they are getting kids on board is through a fun, interactive contest.

Team ENERGY Star is asking the young kids of America to share their personal energy saving efforts and becoming Dr. Seuss’ “The Lorax.”

Here’s how it works. Those looking to participate have to either write an essay record a video, submit photos about what he/she has done to save energy, benefit the climate and save money whether at home, at school or anyplace they lend a helping hand. Then, he/she must create and upload a “Becoming a Lorax” photo.

Stories and photos will be judged on creativity, ingenuity and the effectiveness of your energy savings. Furthermore, submissions will be posted online at ENERGY STAR’s website and social media pages. The public also has the chance to vote on their favorites this fall.

Those who enter have the chance to win “The Lorax” DVD, ENERGY STAR electronics, a feature on a LG billboard in New York City’s Time Square, and many others.

Team ENERGY STAR hopes youth all over the country will participate. Through this program, they want to demonstrate the importance of saving energy, and how it benefits the planet.

You may be asking yourself why something like this is important. Well, did you know about 70 percent of the electricity we use comes from power plants that burn fossil fuels. Fossil fuels are extremely harmful to the environment, as they cause greenhouse gas emissions contributing to climate change. This is one out of the many reasons why living an energy efficient lifestyle is so important.

What better way to get the American youth involved than through a fun contest like this from Team ENERGY STAR?

Be sure to enter the contest before Sept. 7 when it closes. Prize winners will be announced on Oct. 10. Don’t forget when you enter to also join Team ENERGY STAR and become a team member!
