Julie Morris is making a name for herself as a natural food chef who is dedicated to improving everyone’s overall health and getting people inspired to have fun, while making tasty food. Morris is hoping to continue her healthy food journey with her new book, “Superfood Smoothies: 100 Delicious, Energizing & Nutrient-dense Recipes.” Eco News Network chatted with Morris about her upcoming book, and what people can expect.
Eco News: Tell me about “Superfood Smoothies.”
Morris: It’s about superfood smoothies, which you know is not the most complicated subject matter in the world. What I really wanted to do was take smoothies themselves to their fullest potential; mostly in terms of flavors and in terms of nutrition. I’ve had a lot of smoothies in my life . . . the way I look at a blender is this opportunity to put in the best of the best in terms of foods and superfoods. So, that’s what I did with the recipes. How can we take this delicious taste; the foods that interest nutrition; and utilize this beautiful range of flavors, colors and foods that are out there and make some really unique flavors and make this outstandingly nutrient-dense? That was the idea behind all of the recipes in the book.
Eco News: What are some of the recipes in the book?
Morris: I very quickly realized that everybody likes wine, but they have their own specific type of wine that they like. The same is true with smoothies. So, I tried to cater to that by actually sectioning off the recipes into different styles of smoothies. We have the “Light and Fruity” section; there’s a “Cleansing and Green” section; there’s a “Rich and Creamy” section; there’s a “Stealth” section, which actually takes vegetables, beyond just leafy greens, that maybe you want to consume in your diet, but don’t want to taste them, or maybe these are for kids, [like the Chocolate Cauliflower Smoothie]; and there’s lastly a “Premium” section.
Eco News: Do you have a favorite?
Morris: There’s absolutely no way I can pick a favorite.
Eco News: What do you hope people get out of your book?
Morris: Inspiration. I love making recipes, and I like making successful recipes. … All of the recipes in [my] book I’m super proud of. Smoothies are very versatile foods, so what I hope is, out of the recipes in the book, that it really inspires people to just make smoothies a daily process . . . [it provides] a flexibility in the kitchen that’s invaluable.
If you love smoothies, then this is the book for you. Morris teaches you how to build the perfect, nutrient-dense smoothies that will satisfy all of your taste buds. As Morris says, “This book can kind of be the ground for new kinds of smoothies inspiration.”
