While it may not be the preferred food choice of vampires, garlic has numerous benefits for us humans. I grew up on Italian food, so for me, cooking without garlic is a foreign concept.

Here are 5 garlic beauty benefits:

Help Your Hair Grow:
Garlic contains high levels of allicin, a sulfur compound which has been shown to help with hair loss. If you are brave enough (and don’t mind people keeping their distance) try rubbing cloves of garlic on your head to help stimulate hair growth. I haven’t tried this so let me know how it goes!

Weight Loss:
Recent studies have concluded that a garlic rich diet can help aid in weight loss. What a delicious way to maintain flavor in your food and shed the pounds at the same time!

Skin Treatments:
Garlic is naturally antibacterial thanks to all the antioxidants so if you want to banish bacteria on your skin (pimples, acne, etc.) try rubbing garlic on your face, keep it on for 20 minutes and then rinse. I have tried this one before and it works to treat outbreaks but it doesn’t prevent them.

Garlic Makes You Happy:
Garlic is a great source of vitamin B6 which helps keep mood swings from attacking you. A happy person, is a beautiful person!

Get Rid of Cold Sores:
Garlic has wonderful anti-inflammatory properties which come in handy when you are trying to get rid of unsightly cold sores. Rub a little crushed garlic on the cold sore to help reduce the swelling.

Besides treating the outside of you, garlic has amazing health properties for the inside as well. It is wonderful for boosting immunity, it contains a great amount of iodine-which is helpful for treating thyroid conditions, it is useful for treating any kind of bacterial infection, and even though many do not realize, it contains a healthy amount of vitamin C as well.

While eating a bunch of garlic and rubbing it on your skin might not make you a lot of new friends, it will keep you looking and feeling great! So what are you waiting for…mangia!
