The Bloody Mary is a versatile drink that is deemed (by many) a perfectly acceptable drink to drink at any time of the day. It is the drink of choice for many brunch fans as well as those trying to “cure” a hangover. The great thing about this cocktail is the fact that when it is made fresh, it can pack a punch of vitamins and minerals thanks to the fruits and veggies. It provides plenty of lycopene, more than enough to cover your daily need.
Making a top notch, organic Bloody Mary is all about fresh ingredients.
-Four fresh, organic, heirloom tomatoes
-Two organic strawberries
-Tabasco or Worcestershire sauce
-Freshly ground pepper
-Olives, okra, pepperoncini, bacon, asparagus, pickles, cucumber slices (the list of garnish choices can be as wide as the imagination…just check out this list of wild Bloody Mary garnishes in Chicago!)
-Blend tomatoes and strawberries in a blender until completely smooth.
-Put about 4 ice cubes into a cocktail shaker.
-Add 1-1/2 oz vodka.
-Add a few dashes of Tabasco or Worcestershire sauce.
-Add a pinch of cayenne pepper (optional for spicy lovers).
-Add a pinch of celery salt.
-Pour in the juice.
-Shake it, shake it, and shake it!
-Pour the mix into the glass.
-Garnish as a desired (the celery stick is pretty much standard though, just so you know).
It is way more fun to drink a Bloody Mary with a friend so hopefully he or she was preparing brunch while you were playing mixologist!
