Kelley Blue Book announced its top 10 green cars of 2015 today with the all-electric BMW i3 taking top honors. Eco News Network asked Kelley Blue Book (KBB) Executive Editor, Jack R. Nerad what his top 3 personal favorites are on the top 10 green cars list.
“My top three are the Tesla Model S – it’s fast, offers unparalleled EV range and its interior is extremely inventive; the Chevy Volt – our alternative-propulsion Best Buy winner, offering a nice combination of useful EV range and a gasoline engine. It’s more fun-to-drive than you would expect, and the infotainment system is amusing and useful; and the BMW i3 – one of the newer kids on the block with a marvelously non-auto-like interior. It is cool that it can be purchased with or without a gasoline engine. In the old days we joked about engines being optional; now that’s come true.” – Jack R. Nerad.
Kelley Blue Book is the only vehicle valuation and information source trusted and relied upon by both consumers and the automotive industry. The list includes a wide variety of standouts, each with its own appealing mix of efficiency, practicality and price.
“The list of ‘green’ vehicle standouts continues to blossom, and with strict Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE) requirements coming down the pipeline, auto manufacturers are making stronger advancements each year in creating more environmentally friendly vehicles,” says Nerad, executive editorial director and executive market analyst for Kelley Blue Book’s KBB.com.
Number 1 on the top 10 green cars list for the second year in a row is the BMW i3 – an electric car that can sprint to 60 mph in just over 7 seconds, and is made in a factory powered entirely by four wind turbines. And if 81 miles of electric range doesn’t work for you, the i3 can be had with a small gas generator that lets you go as far as there are gas stations.”
