Active Riding Trips sheer bliss horseback riding vacations, for riders and non-riders alike, are an active, eco-friendly and beautiful way to explore Costa Rica. Classified as progressive, the trips actually only move one time; staying in only two hotels, the first for five nights and the second for the last two nights. That doesn’t mean there isn’t plenty of action and adventure.

Each day features a different ride and time to enjoy the beach and the surf every day. Two days include exclusive beach riding on the Guanacaste Peninsula on the Pacific side of Costa Rica. Here you ride the coast both north and south in this unspoiled area that is not overrun with tourists.

The azure blue waters are temperate and great for swimming, relaxing or even trying your hand at surfing. One of the beaches featured, called Avellanas, is a haven for surfers. Other than an occasional fisherman, the beaches are wide open and completely uninhabited. Perfect for long canters in the surf!

In addition, you have the chance to ride in the “back land” which is an entirely different terrain consisting of dry tropical forests, teak plantations and colorful Manzanita trees. Along the way, you’ll be accompanied by all sorts of tropical birds including Toucans and parrots, as well as the residential, and ever-present howler monkeys – you can’t miss them!

The horses are pure bred Criollo, which are the native horse of Costa Rica. They are athletic and not too big in stature. In addition to horseback riding, you’ll also have ample opportunity to try your hand at a canopy tour, swimming with the dolphins or getting up close to see the turtles wading up the beach to lay their eggs. With a myriad of flora, fauna and wildlife, this is a true tropical paradise experience.
