Eco-Celeb Couple of the Week: Kate Middleton & Prince William

Kate Middleton and Prince William support the environment through charity and royal weddingSince it’s a new year, we’ve decided to tweak our Eco-Celeb of the Week series. Instead of focusing on just one green celeb, we’re going to post about our favorite eco-friendly celebrity couples for the next month or so. Many famous couples out there contribute all the time to Mother Earth, so we want to honor them and plus you’ll get double the goodness! This week, we focus on Kate Middleton and Prince William.

Being a newly married couple hasn’t stopped the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Prince William and Kate Middleton, from giving back to charity and the environment. Known worldwide for their green goodness, the two are a couple that will be talked about for ages.

Before they were even married, the lovebirds ensured that their royal wedding would maintain greenness. Rather than accepting wedding gifts, Kate and William set up a charitable gift fund for guests to make donations. Four of the charities benefitted rhinos, elephants, tigers and Earthwatch, an organization that supports environmental-research to educate and build a more sustainable Earth.

Furthermore, the couple chose an eco-friendly florist, which used seasonal, natural and organic flowers and trees from plants that continue to grow and are not cut. After the wedding, flowers were donated and planted at Highgrove Garden located at Prince Charles’ home in Gloucestershire.

The gardens aren’t your typical flower beds, but have been transformed into gardens using organic and sustainable techniques. Visitors can come tour the grounds, with proceeds going to the Prince’s Charities Founation.Prince William and Kate Middleton support environment through animal adoptioin, charity and royal wedding

Prince William must inherit his eco-consciousness from his father, Prince Charles, who is an avid environmental supporter, as he has been known to speak wisely when it comes to conservation.

“The imperative of balancing conservation of wildlife and natural resources with the ever growing needs of the human race is at the heart of the great challenge facing mankind today,” the Prince expressed while attending the 20th anniversary of Tusk Trust, an organization that protects endangered species in Africa, all while improving poverty for those that live near wildlife.

It’s apparent why these two are meant to be, since they both cherish the planet. Kate has even been known to recycle outfits. Instead of purchasing more clothes, she shops in her own closet and repeats ensembles, encouraging others to do the same.

Recently, William and Kate also adopted an adorable pup, which they were spotted walking with along the beach. The black cocker spaniel’s name has yet to be revealed, but he definitely puts a smile on the couple’s faces.
