Eco-Celeb of the Week: Ryan Gosling

April 11, 2013

Ryan Gosling supports the planet and speaks out against animal crueltyEco News Network presents our favorite eco-celeb of the week. We love seeing what celebrities are up to, and that doesn’t mean when it comes to movies, television or music albums, but with how they’re giving back to the planet. This week, Academy Award nominee Ryan Gosling caught our eye. In addition to his acting, writing and directing talents, he supports the planet and its creatures. Check out how he protects Mother Earth.

Hey girl, it’s Ryan Gosling and he loves the environment.

Gosling is one of the top actors in Hollywood, not to mention one of the most gorgeous. Fans love him for his roles in “The Notebook,” “Drive,” “Blue Valentine,” “Crazy, Stupid, Love,” among many others.

But, we’re not here to talk about his acting achievements and good looks. We are here to discuss his love for Mother Nature. Check it out.

One of his most recent eco-achievements is his partnership with PETA. He wrote a letter to the President and CEO of the National Milk Producers Federation asking the organization to please stop dehorning dairy cows.

Not only is the procedure inhumane, but also gruesome. In his letter he writes, “there is absolutely no reason—and no excuse—for the cruel, unnecessary practice of dehorning to continue. Please do the right thing and take action today.”

Animal lovers all over the world responded positively to Gosling’s statement and joint efforts with PETA. It’s hard for this man to make anyone unhappy.

This isn’t the first time he’s spoken out against animal abuse. He’s also advocated to end the cruel treatment of pigs and chickens.

In addition to his animal activism, Gosling also encourages others to recycle. In 2012, DoSomething.org pasted his handsome face all over websites asking others to not be wasteful.

For example, one ad read, “Hey girl, recycling one glass bottle saves enough energy to run energy efficient CFL bulbs for 20 hours, but nothing lights up my life like you.”

If you didn’t know “Hey Girl” is the popular meme associated with Gosling. Kudos to DoSomething.org for being creative and acquiring Gosling’s face for the recycling campaign.

Gosling recently announced he’s taking a break from acting, so maybe he’ll spend more time showing off his eco-friendly side.
