Beauty Benefits of Coconut Water

It seems as though in recent years, the coconut (in its many glorious forms) has been taking the world by storm including the beauty benefits of coconut water. Researchers, scientists, and beauty gurus around the world cannot stop talking about the many effective uses for coconut milk, cococream, water, and oil; it’s a coconut coup d’état out there! Although there are many forms, one that has gotten my attention recently is coconut water. It turns out it is much more than a Hollywood fad. Its health and beauty benefits are numerous and there are legitimate reasons why it has taken the beauty community by storm.

It sounds almost a bit snooty to ask for coconut water these days because of all the hype. Upon asking for it at the traditional grocery store, a busy woman at the counter looked at me as if to say:

“What? Regular water isn’t good enough for you?”

After reading about its countless benefits, I no longer mind those types of looks.
Coconut water, not to be confused with coconut milk, is known for its high potassium content, so much so that you must be careful not to overdo it. You don’t want to overdose on potassium, not fun. It is also packed with vitamins C and B, calcium, antioxidants, magnesium, dietary fibers, and glucose. Since it is packed with so many nutritional elements, it is no wonder that it has been linked with aiding serious health problems like diabetes (it has positive effects on blood sugar as well).

The beauty benefits of coconut water are just as outstanding as its health properties. Here are a few to keep in mind:

Skin:
Coconut water balances PH levels and improves skin elasticity. When applied directly to the skin, has been shown to treat stretch marks, cellulite, and even eczema. It is also used to treat acne and acne scars. To make a mask, just apply the coconut water straight to your face and leave it on for 20 minutes (or a bit longer if you’d like) and then rinse off. The clarity and tone of your skin will immediately start improving.
It is also very hydrating and can improve the texture of your skin as well.

Hair:
Rinsing your hair with coconut water can control dryness and frizz. You can also use it as a leave-in conditioner.

Bloating:
Ever have a big night planned, complete with a perfect outfit that you absolutely cannot afford to bloat in? Next time, down this tropical water, it is known to keep those uncomfortable stomach issues at bay and will help you to fit into those skinny jeans you fear so much.

Weight Loss:
Because it gives oxygen to your body, coconut water helps speed up your metabolism. It is also naturally energizing so instead of reaching for coffee or energy drinks to give you a boost, opt for coconut water and it will help you shed unwanted pounds!

There is obviously nothing better than cracking a coconut open and going to town. It isn’t always super convenient though so remember that when buying coconut water, go for raw, organic, non-heated coconut water.

With all these advantages associated with guzzling this glorious water, it is no wonder people are going coconut crazy. Next time you want to reach for the medicine cabinet to control a health or beauty problem, remember the magical coconut and its countless natural benefits!
