Office Depot continues to be a leader in corporate citizenship, recently celebrating 10 years of reporting sustainability metrics by launching the 2013 Corporate Citizenship Report. Office Depot, (NYSE: ODP), is a leading global provider of office supplies and services The report shares details on what the Company calls its “path to positive impact” over the past decade including a commitment to business, people, and the planet.
According to the report, since 2003, Office Depot has expanded its green product offering from more than 2,000 products to nearly 11,000 while reducing its total carbon footprint by 43 percent over the same period of time. This, even as the total square footage of the Company’s facilities has grown.
“We pride ourselves in doing business the right way, while also putting the customer first,” said Neil Austrian, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer for Office Depot. “We take our role as an outstanding corporate citizen seriously and, in the ten years since we began reporting data, we’ve made significant strides in our commitment to diversity, community outreach, and reducing our environmental footprint.”
According to the Company, PricewaterhouseCoopers independently reviewed key environmental metrics presented in the report and for the sixth consecutive year, the environmental dashboard referenced the Global Reporting Initiative’s (GRI) guidelines.
Office Depot has annual sales of approximately $10.7 billion, employs about 38,000 associates, and serves customers in 60 countries around the world. A 2012 article on Eco News Network reported on Office Depot’s recognition by the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) as a 2012 ENERGY STAR® Leaders for Leadership in Reducing Greenhouse Gas Emissions.
