The first of the year marks many new changes for everyone. One change that only 4 in 10 Americans are aware of is that 40W and 60W incandescent light bulbs will be disconntinued in the US.
A survey done by Osram Sylvania called the “Socket Survey” measured American attitudes toward energy efficiency and lighting. Those who did know about the switch are divided into two categories: those who planned on filling shopping carts with the old bulbs before the first of the year (30%) and those who calmly plan to handle the dilemma by switching to CFLs (46%).
The other 37% plan to switch to halogen bulbs or LEDs…a bright idea!
The survey also mentioned that those questioned also strongly favor bulbs made in the US.
These changes are the result of federally mandated legislation to increase energy efficiency.
