New York Tops Green Cities in America

October is National Energy Awareness Month and 71 percent of Americans today supporting efforts to protect the environment according to the personal finance website WalletHub. Today, WalletHug released its 2015’s Greenest Cities in America report with New York City topping the list of Green Cities and Boston at number 8 according to the report. Honolulu rates with the best air quality. Sorry Baton Rouge but you are at the bottom of the Green Cities list.New_York's_Central_Park,_Southwest

To identify the cities that most encourage an environmentally friendly lifestyle, WalletHub analyzed the 100 most populated U.S. cities across 13 key metrics, ranging from greenhouse-gas emissions per capita to the number of smart-energy policies and initiatives.

  • The bike score in Minneapolis is three times higher than in Birmingham, Ala.
  • New York is four times more walkable than Chesapeake, Va.
